TWNRVA (pronounced “Twin Rova”) is a pop duo from Toronto. Devin Moody and Andrew Falcao started with pop punk band, July and have branched out on their own with a 90’s pop sound with an edge.  We discuss the duo’s directional switch, the changes in the musical landscape and how to fit in as a live band in today’s settings.  We talk about the range of sounds and the way the group splits up the songwriting process, and being true to you early inspirations, even if there weren’t always the coolest.

Cosmo Ferraro is a guitar player in Toronto band, Ferraro as well as manager and booker of the Cameron House.  We talk about Cosmo’s early foray into music, playing with friends and starting to learn alongside them.  As his two brothers also got interested in music, they formed a band and became staples of the Toronto music scene. As mother, uncle and their friend created The Cameron House in 1981, and Cosmo took over the bar at age 22, and keeps its status as a landmark music venue in Toronto intact.

Jimmy Rankin is a Canadian country and folk artist. A member of The Rankin Family with brothers and sisters, Jimmy rose to national fame and in the early 2000’s began his solo career.   We talk about Jimmy’s new album, Moving East and discuss his relocation from Nashville back to Eastern Canada.  We discuss growing up in a large music family and how they took their local roots and music of Cape Breton and brought it successfully to the national stage.  We talk about working with producer Joel Plaskett, and the fun working on a record in today’s digital word.

Darren Mcgill is a recording engineer currently working out of Union Sound Company in Toronto.  His recent credits include work with Monowhales, Ivan Angelo, Nate Douglas, The Dirty Nil, Pup and Donovan Woods.  We talk about how Darren got involved with audio engineering and the decisions that lead him to Fanshawe College.  We discuss how Darren continued to take opportunities and turn them into employment, but not at the risk of loosing site of his pursuit to always working on great albums.

Isaiah Gibbons is a session drummer, and songwriter based in Mississauga, On.  He has released the funk album, Live Life this year as well as multiple singles featuring artists, Gabriela Rodgers, Gud Cyrus, Olivia Moore, Michael Morales and more.  Isaiah is also currently playing with R&B singer Anders, as well as his own band Moonhead, who are featured in the revamped version of Rockey Horror Picture Show featuring Lou Adler.  We discuss his musical upbringing, his decision to focus on music at an early age and how to establish balance in a music based life.

Jenna Strautman is a singer, songwriter and bass player currently residing in Toronto.  Jenna has just announced a new project, TanBlonde.  They will be playing their debut show, Sept 7th at Lee’s Palace.  Jenna is originally from Canmore Alberta, and we talk about her decision to come to Toronto with her then band, Dreadful Starlings 8 years ago.  Once departing from them, she started Rotary Dial, alongside friends and a community based around the venue Not My Dog in Parkdale.

Matt Fudge is a musician, songwriter, producer and music plugin creator.  I met Matt and he produced my own album for my project, Good Luck Shop.  He has recently returned from an 8 months stay in Berlin, working with Native Instruments.  He has developed music software plugins for Native instruments, Wave Alchemy, Get Good Drums and Sample Magic to name a few.  He was nominated this year at the 2018 Sync Awards for his cowriting with Grand Analog for his work on the song, Quiet Life.

Episode 20 of All About The Song Podcast is with Tal Vaisman, a songwriter, producer and guitar player in the Ascot Royals.  Tal grew up in Israel, and moved to Vancouver with a hard rock band, who then moved to Toronto.  After the band broke, Tal threw himself into engineering school at Metalworks institute, and developed his skills as a producer.  During his time there, Tal met members of what would become the band he would join, Ascot Royals.  Tal works as a music producer and songwriter, and develops young artists and others alike.

Sean Ward is a professional youtuber, rapper, cartoonist and MC.  We talk about his beginnings selling comic books on the Toronto streets, to now having an office overlooking the spot he sold his first comic.  His highly successful Youtube page, The Sean Ward Show (Superhero fan parody series) has crossed the 1 million subscriber-ship mark, and is also about to hit 1 billion views.  Sean is an old friend and big time mentor, though we detoured away from music for the majority of the podcast, Sean has an album, “I want to get to you personally”, which will be released in the upcoming months.
